SAN DIEGO, October, 2005: In comparison to the other cities
in the nation, San Diego is ranked as one of the healthiest cities
in the nation each year. The great weather year-round, the beautiful
beaches, abundant outdoor activities and state of the art research,
medical and fitness centers work to foster a healthy lifestyle
in which San Diego adults and their children take pride.
Since 1928, the month of October has been declared, by presidential
proclamation, as National Children’s Health Month – a
month dedicated to the physical and mental well being for children.
Under the proclamation, the President calls upon families, schools,
child health professionals, faith-based and community organizations
and governments to help all our children discover the rewards of
good health and wellness. One local company, Children’s Creative
Programming Partnership LLC, is responding to the call of action
with their new DVD program, Tot-a-Doodle-Do!
Children’s Creative Programming Partnership LLC is celebrating
National Children’s Health Month with Tot-a-Doodle-Do! Episode
Two: The Body. This episode is designed to educate children about
their bodies in an entertaining and fun format. The program has
six segments that feature:
Crafty Kids – Join us as we trace and decorate our bodies.
Kids can use their creativity to color, paint, and glue their favorite
materials onto their tracing.
Imagination Station – Use your imagination and play “Sticky
Bubble Gum” with us. How does your imaginary bubble gum smell
and taste? Which part of your body will it get stuck to next?
On our Block – Meet your friend the pediatrician. Dr. Heller
will teach us why we should see the doctor and what happens when
we get there.
Hop N Bop – Sing and dance with us to original songs about
the body including “Point with Me” and “What
Can you Do.”
Super Snack – After all the fun we make cheesy faces using
cheese slices and nutritious and delicious treats for our facial
features.
Molly Manners – Our puppet Molly Manners teaches the children
polite ways to use their bodies and their manners, and how not
to spread germs.
The program is a fun and imaginative sing-a-long packed full of
interesting activities that are educational and entertaining.
Tot-a-Doodle-Do was founded by Heidi Heller Niehart in 2004, a
mother of three and a businesswoman with a background in public
relations and marketing. Heidi had an idea for a television show
that would incorporate follow-along activities for children with
their parents and/or caregiver. She approached her friend Penny
L. Cohen, a Speech & Language Pathologist, who has worked with
children for many years as a speech therapist, singer, songwriter,
and music and theatre teacher. Heidi and Penny embarked on a journey
together to co-produce a show that would entertain and educate
children. The final result was Tot-a-Doodle-Do!
Heidi and Penny are both committed to giving parents, teachers,
mentors and communities the resources they need to help children
stay healthy. You are invited to talk with a representative from
Tot-a-Doodle-Do! to discuss National Children’s Health month
and what they are doing to advocate for children’s well being.
We also have a panel of experts available to speak on the topic.
