Frequently Asked Questions

How did Tot-a-Doodle-Do get started?
Tot-a-Doodle-Do was created by Heidi Heller Niehart, a mother of three and business owner, who envisioned a television program that would incorporate follow-along activities for children and their parents or caregivers. In 2004, she approached her friend Penny L. Cohen, a speech and language pathologist, to discuss her idea. With Penny’s extensive background working with children as a speech therapist, singer, songwriter, and music and theater teacher, Heidi believed she would be a great co-producer for the program. The two women set out to bring into reality an interactive, educational and entertaining television program for children to develop important fine and gross motor skills, communication, cognitive skills, and socialization.

Heidi and Penny work together to create the themes and scripts for the Tot-a-Doodle-Do programs, while Penny is responsible for creatively writing the music and lyrics for each of the original songs.
